RealMetrics Research Identifies VPS Hosting Support Twice as Fast as Shared Hosting Support

A key criterion when selecting a hosting provider is the time it takes the provider to respond to normal technical support questions. This report documents actual support response times of Shared, Virtual Private Server (VPS) and Email hosting providers. The information contained in this report indicates that VPS hosts respond on average more than twice as fast as Shared hosts. Additionally, Shared hosting providers have a greater variance from the slowest to the faster response times. Over the 3 months of testing VPS hosting providers averaged under 2 hours and 45 minute response times. During the same period the Email hosting providers averaged less than 4 hour response times and the Shared hosting providers averaged over 6 hour response times.

RealMetrics WebSpeed Report Reveals Shared Hosting is 80% Faster than VPS Hosting

The actual measured web speed of any given web site varies for numerous reasons. Many of the reasons include factors within the control of the web hosting provider. This research explores the difference in actual measured web speed of shared hosting providers versus virtual private server (VPS) hosting providers. The research suggests that a shared hosting environment is 80% faster than a VPS hosting environment. This document also discusses possible rationale behind this speed variance and the significant risks associated with decisions based on web speed alone.
